If you’ve got a window or room air conditioner which doesn’t seem to be doing what you need it to (which is cool the air), then you may need to clean it or even recharged with refrigerant. There are a number of things that you can actually do to fix that whole problem, no matter what the cause. Here they are:
• First, you need to unplug the unit and then carefully remove it from the wall or the window.
• Place it in an area that you’ll be able to work on it, preferably outdoors.
• Take the grille and filter out, then unscrew the metal case carefully so that you don’t harm the coil’s fins.
• Thoroughly wash the filter or replace it and use a vacuum with a soft brush attachment to clean the coil’s fins.
• Now spray water back through the find from the side that the fan is on, but be careful not to spray the wiring. Cover the wiring with plastic before you spray.
• Ensure that that all the drains that direct condensed water way from the unit, remain open and clean the unit up with a washcloth.
• You can now lubricate the AC unit’s motor. Do so in accordance to the directions in the owner’s manual.
• Last, but not least, reassemble the unit and place it back into position. It should work fine now.
